Since the launch of the iPhone 6 from Apple and the Galaxy S6 Edge from Samsung, the smartphone industry in India has had just two toppers in the segment. And now, a new rival comes into the story. The LG G Flex2.
The LG G Flex2, which made its debut appearance at the CES 2015, has been launched in India at the LG Tech Show which was held today in New Delhi. The new smartphone is LG's answer to the iPhone 6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The phone would be going on sale by the end of March for a price of Rs 55,000.
The key feature of the new G Flex 2 is indeed its curved design and self healing back panel coating. While the Galaxy S6 Edge chose to sport curvy edges, LG decided to implement the curves on the whole of the phone.
The LG G Flex 2 gets a 5.5-inch LCD screen with a Gorilla Glass protection and display resolution of 1080p. Powered by a non-removable 3000 mAh Li-Po battery, the phone runs on Android Lollipop v5.0.1 OS with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip-set and 2 GB RAM memory. In terms of storage, the G Flex2 gets an internal memory options of 16 GB and 32 GB. On the camera specifics, the phone sports a 13 MP rear camera with an LED flash and a 2.1 MP secondary camera. Its connectivity options include 2G/3G/4G network support by means of a microSIM, NFC, GPS, Wi-Fi, microUSB v2.0 with USB host connectivity. The colour options available for this phone are Platinum Silver and Flamenco Red.
With the launch of the LG G Flex2 in India, the manufacturer expects to witness a major turn-over in its business. "India is amongst the top five global markets for LG globally but we expect changes in the rankings in the next three years. I want to bring India's ranking as the third largest market for LG. We expect demand to go up in the mid range costing between Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000. We do have very robust plans to cover all price ranges this year. We plan to launch 30 new phone models this year," added Soon Kwon, the Managing Director for LG Electronics India.
