Sony Xperia C5 Ultra launched with 13 MP rear and front cameras with “near borderless” 6-inch display

The Japanese smartphone manufacturer, Sony has launched the Xperia C5 Ultra on Monday. The device will be available in select countries by mid-August. The pricing of the handset is not yet confirmed. The C5 Ultra will be unveiled in both single SIM and double SIM variants with no difference in specifications. Just like the Sony Xperia C3, the C5 is also targeted at all selfie lovers. The Xperia C5 is the direct successor to the Sony Xperia C4 which was unveiled a few months ago.



In terms of the specification the Sony Xperia C5 Ultra sports a 6-inch full HD IPS display with a screen resolution of 1080x1920 pixels. The IPS display is powered by Sony's Mobile Bravia Engine 2. The “near borderless” display is an attraction as well. The device measures 164.2x79.6x8.2mm and weighs 187 grams. The edge of the device is in Aluminum and will be available in Black, White and Glossy-soft Mint color variants.

Powered by a 1.7GHz 64-bit octa-core MT 6752 processor the device runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop. On the storage front the device comes with 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and a huge external memory of 200GB which can be expanded via micro SD card. Purely aiming at all the shutterbugs the device flaunts a 13 MP camera on both the rear and the front which is accompanied with LED Flash as well.

Both the LED flash is equipped with Sony's Exmor RS sensor. Sony uses a square flash intead of th econventional round one as aquare flashes are said to light up more of the frame. Some of the camera options on the Xperia C5 Ultra include video stabiliser, auto scene recognition, 25mm wide-angle lens (rear) with an 80-degree field of view, 4x digital zoom, full-HD video recording, image stabiliser, geotagging, and red-eye reduction among others. The 22mm wide angle lens allows you to squeeze in a lot of people for the selfie clicks.

Connectivity options comprises of 4G LTE( not sure whether Indian bands will be supported), 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Micro-USB, GPRS/EDGE, GPS, NFC and Glonass.The Xperia C5 Ultra packs in a 2930mAh battery. Unlike other Sony's mid-range devices the C5 Ultra doesn't come with water resistant and dust protection features.

Sony has tried to make the device easily accessible for both right-handed and left-handed users. A slide of the fingers will activate the 'mini mode' which shrinks the screen to 4 inches. A quick tap will restore the screen size to original.

A little extra capacity from the battery would have been welcomed greatly taking into account of the phone's overall features. But even with the 2,930mAh battery Sony claims about two days of battery life. Fingers crossed until the actual price and availability of the device is announced.
