What The Xiaomi Mi 4 Is All About?

An insight into the features of Xiaomi Mi 4

The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi launched its latest flagship smartphone called as the Mi 4 for Rs.19,999 in India. But Is the Xiaomi Mi 4 worth all that money?

Design and Features

The Xiaomi Mi 4 has an impeccable craftsmanship and polish beyond imagination. Though the company has borrowed its design liberally from Apple's iPhone 5s, especially the stainless steel rim around the phone and the white plastic inserts, there are various elements in the Mi 4's design that makes it unique.

For instance, the front speaker is a big giveaway of Mi 4's unique designing. Moreover, an added advantage is the steel band which protects the front panel from getting chipped. Xiaomi Mi4 is available in two colours – Black and White. The rear panel is plastic, but Xiaomi offers you specially designed back panels ranging from designs of wood to marble.

Display

The Mi 4 sports a 5-inch IPS display with full-HD resolution (1080 x 1920 pixels) with a pixel density as high as 441 ppi. The display is said to be scratch-resistant and shatter-proof. The Mi 4 runs MIUI 6 which brings in features like customizing themes according to your preferences, blocking spam calls, accessing free Wi-Fi with WiWide and also using the IVR system. It focuses on features like colour, motion, customisation, security and content and icons with motion graphics built into them.

Storage

The Mi4 features a 3 GB RAM and 16 GB internal memory, but doesn't support expanded storage by means of a memory card. This is one of the major drawbacks of the Mi4, though serious shortage of space need not be expected unless you have so many files to store. However, there is a speculation that Xiaomi might bring in a variant of the Mi 4 with 64 GB ROM as an answer to the rumours regarding less storage capacity. It also offers access to MIUI Cloud Storage for storing data.

Processor and Performance

This smartphone runs on an Android v4.4.2 KitKat OS with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 Quad-core processor clocked at 2.5 GHz, coupled with a 3 GB RAM. This makes it efficient to handle your daily tasks and applications without any hassles. The phone is powered by a 3,080 mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery. This makes it difficult for you to do a hard reset if the phone happens to freeze at any time.

Camera

The major highlights of the Mi 4 is its camera. It maintains the 13 MP rear camera from its previous versions, while the front camera gets a big hike in its features. The front cam has its specs of 8 MP for selfies and video conferencing. The phone has a Sony Exmor RS stacked image sensor with 6-element lens and f/1.8 aperture, which makes it a pretty good camera phone. It also includes other features like 0.3 seconds of autofocus time, Blue glass infrared filter, Intelligent high dynamic flash, HDR, panorama and burst modes. 4K UHD video recording is also supported, along with a Beauty app for retouching selfies.

Xiaomi Mi 4

Network and Connectivity

Xiaomi Mi4 is a smartphone that supports a single microSIM. The connectivity options of the Mi 4 won't disappoint you as it comes along with 2G and 3G options, and also features Bluetooth 4.0, Bluetooth HID, GPS and AGPS, GLONASS and BeiDou Navigation Satellite System.

Our Verdict?

Xiaomi Mi 4

Xiaomi's Mi 4, though a high-end smartphone, is promising enough as every feature of this phone is worth all the money that you spend. The disadvantages of this phone only seems to be its low internal memory of 16 GB with lack of expandable memory option and its non-removable battery. But despite all that, this phone is something that is worth trying.
