The Meizu MX5 has been launched yesterday at an event in China where the company presented their new flagship phone. The MX5 is the successor to the MX4 released last year. Are you ready to be invaded by the Mid-range Chinese phone? Read on to find out more about it.
Display
The all metal body sports a 5.5 inch AMOLED display with corning Gorilla Glass 3. Meizu has adopted Samsung's AMOLED screen in place of the conventional LCD technology making it one of the striking features for the MX5. The home button is also embedded with a finger print sensor. The high-end AMOLED display from Samsung comes with attractive specification viz -100% NTSC color gamut ensuring the colors to be precise even when viewed from different angles, 350 cd/m² maximum brightness and an infinite contrast range.
Together with MiraVision technology which is an advanced image processing engine, it produces more realistic pictures and text is displayed so very distinctively. A unique attribute of AMOLED display is that every single pixel lightens up individually, actively reducing power consumption to zero in darker colored pictures.
Both the screen brightness and screen colors can be dynamically adjusted to balance great vision and battery life in different light situations.
The Screen
With the 5.5 inch AMOLED screen, a praise-worthy feature, the MX5 can automatically adjust to a wide range of styles, including sharpening, dynamic contrast and color saturation based on the content of the image and as we know a screen with only a single effect can definitely limit our viewing experience. Design
The 100% metal body offers a light, strong and a delicate choice. Weighing at about 149gms, the MX5 is barely heavier than MX 4. the thickness being only about 7.6mm the phone is handy and can be carried around easily. The color variants include deep grey, champagne gold and silver which perfectly shows off the metal polishing. The rear sports a dual-flash and focus module which is assembled together to give it a smooth look. The fingerprint scanner which is embedded with the home screen claims to give a much faster detection.
The TouchScreen
The manufactures claims the mTouch 2.0 to be fast, convenient and safe. The new fingerprint button which is fixed above a layer of water-proof silicone gel has proven to withstand 3,00,000 presses without any problem. The mTouch 2.0 is based on the TEE security environment of TrusTonic. For any third party program to access the phone interface, it is necessary to pass Meizu review and signature, and the security area then provides verification results to the application, so a third party app will never be in direct contact with your fingerprint. So no worries of being under a security threat or a flaw.
Camera
MX5 offers a 20.7 MP rear camera bundled with 6P lens(in order to filter out the unwanted light) and laser-aided focusing technology. The improved software features include- white balancing, sharpening, color tuning and shutter logic. Intelligent beautification with the 5 MP front camera which is equipped with f/2.0 aperture ensuring the maximum output even in scanty light conditions. In addition to the existing Face AE facial exposure strengthening technology the new FotoNation 2.0 is also included. Software and Processor
Meizu's new MX5 smartphone packs MediaTek's recently launched 64-bit Helio X10 Octa-core Processor. It operates in a very steady frequency and minimizes power leakage efficiently. Thereby helping to maintain a balanced power consumption. Combined with the advanced 64-bit Flyme OS 4.5, the MX5 is the smoothest smartphone ever designed by Meizu. Along with 3GB of RAM and PowerVR G6200 GPU, the handset runs Android 5.0 Lollipop-based Flyme 4.5 OS and supports dual-SIM with both the SIMs supporting 4G.
Battery
mCharge is classified to be the world's most sophisticated quick charge technology. The MX5 supports mCharge allowing your phone to grab in 25% charge in just 10 minutes and up to 60% within 40 minutes. This makes it possible not to freak out even if you forget to charge your phone the previous night. Being backed up by a3150 mAh battery the phone for sure ensures a massive power capacity. Connectivity options on the smartphone include 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/ A-GPS and Glonass (The Russian version of GPS).
The Final Word
The new flagship definitely packs in some solid features all praises to its processor and the 3 GB RAM. Looking at the details, the MX5 might not look solidly different from its earlier releases but it does definitely offer you a strong and elegant build with the all metal coating. The capsule shaped home key upfront has been altered slightly which now resembles a Samsung-like look.
What really makes the MX5 so radiant is however the price tag. The base 16GB model will be offered at about an approximate price of Rs 18,450 with the 32GB model at roughly Rs. 20,500 and the 64GB at Rs.24,650.
Coming with a non-removable battery proves to be a glitch even with all these high-end specs. The absence of SD card slots leaves you with the only option of purchasing the variants with higher internal storage capacity. It would have been a game changer if the SD card options were available.
