Samsung Announces REX Series of Feature Phones

The Rex series consists of four devices; Rex 60, Rex 70, Rex 80 and Rex 90, at a price ranging from Rs. 4,280 to Rs. 6,490.

Samsung has announced their new series of feature phones, dubbed Rex. The Rex series includes four feature phones, Rex 60, Rex 70, Rex 80 and Rex 90. These phones have price ranging from Rs. 4,280 to Rs. 6,490. These phones were launched yesterday in New Delhi. BD Park, President and CEO of South West Asia HQ, Samsung Electronics stated yesterday, said,“The Rex series have been developed in India and will be introduced across a number of the world’s fastest growing markets from India. We have tremendous confidence that the REX series will allow us to connect with the huge base of young Indians who are looking for Smart Solutions. Further, the Rex series are packed with content and applications that cater to the demands of Indian consumers. With Samsung Rex, we are opening a whole new world for consumers and hence the tag line ‘Now your world is Open’.”

Samsung Rex Series Feature Phones

All these four phones have Samsung’s full touch Touchwiz interface. They provide you an option of 8 home screens, which can be customised. Menu options are classified in to 4×4 icons on the display. The quick panel feature of the phone allows one touch access to connectivity options like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and also mail and message notifications.



All the phones will have Dual SIM capability.Samsung calls this application as ‘True Hot Swap’. According to the press release, this feature improves the regular SIM hot swap by allowing SIM changes without switching the phone off or even having another SIM in place.. all the four phones support apps and web browsing through Opera Mini. They also have full social networking and messaging capability, including Samsung’s own cross-platform chat application, ChatON. Some of the applications are available to the users in India from the Samsung App store, like ngpay, eBay, OLX, and Quikr.

Though all the specifications of the phones are not revealed, lets have a quick run through the available specs of the phones.

Rex 60:

The Rex 60 Dual SIM phone will be having a 2.8-inch QVGA display. It will have a 1.3 mega pixel camera. It can support EDGE/GPRS. It will have a 30MB memory with microSD card slot. The device will be powered by a battery of 1,000mAh. The Rex 60 will be coming pre installed with Facebook, Twitter and GTalk apps, Opera Mini browser, 10 full Gameloft games, ChatON, Yahoo, ChatFree Games, Music & Apps from Samsung App store.

Rex 70

Samsung Rex Series Feature Phones

As mentioned earlier, this phone will be having Dual SIM capacity. It will feature a 3-inch QVGA resolution display. The phone will have a 2 mega pixel camera and it will be supporting EDGE/GPRS. The memory of the phone includes 10MB with microSD card slot. It will be powdered by a 1,000mAh battery. All other features are just like Rex 60.

Rex 80

Samsung Rex Series Feature Phones

Rex 80 series of feature phones will be having 3-inch QVGA display. It is likely to pack a 3-mega pixel camera. The device id expected to support EDGE/GPRS and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n. The Rex 80 will have 20MB memory with microSD card slot. The Dual SIM device will be powered by a 1,000mAh battery.

Rex 90

Samsung Rex Series Feature Phones

This phone will also feature Dual SIM capability. It will be having a 3.5-inch HVGA display. The phone will have a camera of 3.2-mega pixels. It will support EDGE/GPRS and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n. The device will have 10MB memory with microSD card slot. It will be powered by a 1,000mAh battery.

The Rex series has launched with a tie up with Tata-Docomo, which provides the customer with an addition of double the data with a standard data charge, till August 31, 2013.
