Xiaomi Redmi 2 Launched

The new budget smartphone from Xiaomi is finally here!

After giving away teasers on the new Xiaomi Redmi 2, the Chinese manufacturer has finally decided to take it to the next level and actually launch the budget smartphone at an official launch in New Delhi.



Priced at rs 6,999, this smartphone, which would also be known by the name Xiaomi Hongmi 2, supports 4G network connectivity and would pose as a rival to the second generation Moto E and Lenovo A6000. The new Redmi doesn't seem to have much of a marked difference from the Redmi 1S, though the phone is indeed of the next level as its tag-line “Taking it to the Next Level” states.

Looking on to the specifications of the phone, the new Xiaomi Redmi 2 runs on the Android v4.4 OS based on the MIUI 6.0 software and features a 64-bit 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor.

The camera gets a resolution-lift of 2 MP, when compared to the 1.6 MP shooter present in the Redmi 1S. This new budget smartphone gets its power from a 2200 mAh battery which gets the QuickCharge 1.0 technology to charge the phones at a faster rate.

The 2S gets thinner and lighter in dimensions than the 1S. The rest of the features on the 1S- 4.7-inch HD display with DragonTail protection, 8GB internal memory and upto 32GB expandable memory, 1GB RAM and connectivity supports, have been passed on to the 2S as well.

The phone comes with a matte-finished rear panel that is resistant to fingerprint and grease, which comes in the colours black, white, yellow, pink and green.

As per the statements of the Xiaomi global Vice-President Hugo Barra, another version of the Redmi 2 would soon hit Indian markets which features a 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory, with a price higher than that of the Redmi 2.

The phone would go on sale exclusively on Flipkart with its registraions beginning today at 6PM, while the actual sale would happen on March 24th.
