Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime-:The Made in India smartphone

The Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 2 Prime with the assembling being done in India. This makes India the second country outside China to get locally-assembled Xiaomi handsets after the company launched similar type in Brazil. The partnership with Foxconn, the world's largest contract manufacturer has resulted in the assembling of the Redmi 2 Prime in India. The device will be available for purchase from the company's own online store- Mi.com, as well as through online retailers including FlipKart, Amazon and Snapdeal. The Redmi 2 Prime is priced at Rs. 6,999/- and will be eventually available in the offline markets as well.



In terms of the specifications the Redmi 2 Prime is definitely an upgraded product version of the Redmi 2 which is currently available in India at Rs. 5,999/- The major upgrade is that of the RAM and the ROM features.

The Redmi 2 Prime features a 4.7 inch IPS HD Sharp display with a screen resolution of 720x1280 pixels. The device runs on Android 4.4 KitKat which is layered with the company's own MIUI 6. The dual-SIM device supports 4G networks on both the SIM cards.



The USP of course is the storage space. The RAM is of 2GB in contrast to the 1GB of the earlier version. Internal storage is of 16GB which can be expanded up to 32 GB via micro SD card. Being powered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor the device is coupled with Adreno 306 GPU. The 8 MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture comes with a 2 MP front-facing one.



The Redmi 2 Prime ropes in a 2,200mAh battery which the company claims will be more than enough for 14 hours of talk time. The Quick Charge facility is an incentive to this price. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Micro-USB.

To manufacture the phone in India, Xiaomi partnered up with Foxconn to make use of its prodction plant in Sri City in Andhra Pradesh. All of the Redmi 2 Prime phones sold in India will be manufactured in this plant and will retail for just Rs 6,999.
