The new Panasonic smartphone, the P51 is coming with a price tag of Rupees 27,000/-. according to their press release, the device has a 1.2 GHz quad core processor. The smartphone is coming with a bunch of new set ups like Asahi Dragon Trail scratch proof touch screen and damage-proof glass for added durability.
The smartphone has been released in India on 17th May 2013. It will be a real tough competitor to Micromax, Karbonn, Sony and of course Samsung smartphones. There is no doubt that P51 is equipped fairly. Lets go through the features of Panasonic P51:
Display:
Without disappointing anybody with the age old WVGA display, the P51 makes its entry with a very decent IPS panel display. The display screen has 5 inches size. It has a resolution of 1280×720 pixels and 295 pixels per inch (ppi) pixel density. The pixel density is better than the much acclaimed Samsung's Galaxy Grand Duos. No doubt that P51 will be a strong rival. As the display is IPS, there is no room for doubt regarding the clarity and brightness. The IPS panel will be slightly down to the Super AMOLED. That means, if you are an ardent fan of the AMOLED displays, this might not make you feel happy.
As mentioned above, the screen of the phone is made of Asahi Dragontail glass and has an Oleophobic coating to prevent fingerprints.
Design:
The P51 might look simpler at first glance. But it is having a unibody design and has its own dignity and premium look. The matte black panel not only looks great, but it also prevents the fingerprints. But the totally glossy white rear side of the phone is almost the opposite.
There is an 8MP rear camera on the back side of the smartphone. Unlike the usual top position, the camera situates in a middle position of the phone. It has an LED flash light, located right under it. The right edge of the phone has the volume rocker and the microSD card slot. The power button is at top along with the 3.5 mm audio jack, while the left edge of the phone has the dual SIM slots and the micro USB port.
Operating System:
Among the TouchWiz and Sense running smartphones, Panasonic P51 stands unique with its stock Android 4.2 roots. They have also included on screen navigation buttons too. It is very pleasing to see the stock Android in a smartphone. We must say that P51 won in impressing us. The Panasonic P51 stands out among a sea of TouchWiz and Sense-running smartphones thanks to the stock Android.
CPU and Storage:
One of the most powerful feature of the P51 is its powerful processor. The device comes packed with a 1.2GHz quad core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU and PowerVR Series5XT GPU. While the CPU uses the slightly older architecture from ARM, the SoC is built using the newer 28nm fabrication process, so it should do well in terms of power efficiency. The four cores will be enough back up for a better gaming experience and also in the general responsiveness of the user interface.
The P51 has a RAM of 1GB. It has 4GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot to expand the memory up to 32GB.
Camera:
The P51 has dual cameras. There is an 8MP rear camera on the rear side of the phone and also there is a 1.3 MP camera on the front side of the phone. The rear camera has auto focusing feature. It has an LED flash light, which is located right under the rear camera. The performance of the camera can not be rated for the time being as the phone is released only recently. It will take time to get first hand experience.
The 1.3 MP front camera will not be better than the 2MP and even the 5MP available in the market. But it will be enough for an unavoidable video call or a very quick self portrait.
Connectivities:
The P51 smartphone is a dual SI smartphone with dual standby. The dual SIM cards can support both 2G and 3G. But, only one card could be used as 3G. The other one can be used to surf the internet through EDGE. The P51 has Wi- Fi connectivity too. You can use the phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot. The smartphone has got Bluetooth version 4 and GPS connectivities too.
Battery:
The Panasonic P51 smartphone packs an LI-Ion battery with a capacity of 2500 mAh. It seems to us that the battery will be enough for a full day's usage of the phone. The quad-core CPU and the 720p display would be real power consumers. We will have to give it some time before reaching on the final statement about the battery.
Price:
The Panasonic P51 smartphone is currently available at a price tag of Rs. 27,000/-. this is a pretty high price tag, when we take in to our consideration that Micromax and Xolo have released smartphones with similar spec sheets with almost half price. So, there will be a slight disadvantage to the smartphone as far as the Indian smartphone market is concerned. In other aspects, it is a pretty good phone with pretty good features.
