iPhone 6 - Apple fails to meet the expectations?

iPhone 6 features and specs: Comparison with Samsung Galaxy S5, LG G3 and HTC One M8

It always feels good to watch the race between Android and Apple. These two smart giants have been proving themselves to us relentlessly over the years. Here we are now with the iPhone 6 series. Does it hold enough to lure the Android lovers away? Question stands between specifications and performance.

Display and Design
iPhone 6 series offers a considerable solution from Apple's side in the race for bigger screens and displays in smart phones. With more networks converting to 3G, the demand for wide screen phones have been escalating. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is slimmer compared to the other Flag ship models like HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy S5 etc. Dimension of iPhone 6 is 138.1×67×6.9mm whereas iPhone 5S measures 123.80×58.60×7.60mm. Samsung Galaxy S5 measures 142×72.5×8.1mm while HTC one M8 measures 146.36×70.6×9.35mm. Therefore Apple is rooting for the tag line of thinnest iPhone ever. However the screen display appears still smaller compared to the other android flagship models. There are phones like LG G3 which offers a 5.5 inch display whereas iPhone 6 only has 4.7 inch display offering a 336 ppi much like the other 4 inch display models. The weight of iPhone 6 beats all the other models at 129 grams to which the closest is Samsung Galaxy S5 weighing 145 grams.

Processor, Chip and Performance
A unique feature of iPhone 6 series remains the A8 processor, unfortunately comparison will be a bit difficult in this front as the performance details are not yet available. As far as A8 is concerned, we will have to wait and see, because Apple has always had the reputation for delivering top class performance even with meager specifications on paper. Experts do agree on one point that a comparison between Apple A8 processor and SoC's used by Android smart phones will be difficult with basic differences within hardware-software optimization. Between Android and Apple we can already feel the heat rising. Will A8 live up to the expectations, considering the price and performance of Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8?

Storage
The storage capacity of iPhone 6 is available on 16GB, 64GB and 128 GB, whereas in the other models like Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC one M8, the maximum capacity comes only up to 32GB. In terms of RAM, iPhone 6 is having a 1 GB RAM, whereas both Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 has a 2 GB RAM. Yet considering the previous performances from Apple, It would be a mistake to judge what a 1 GB RAM can do in an iPhone 6.

Camera
Camera and specification wont impress you much in the first place, as the comparison goes from 8 pixel in iPhone 6 to 16 mega pixel in Samsung Galaxy S5 and 4-ultra pixel in HTC one M8. However, on a second glance, it is impossible not to notice the focus pixel technology integrated with iPhone 6 providing a better auto focus than what is available in the preview. Added features ranges from improved face detection to f2.2 aperture control, a tradition kept from iPhone 5S. Video camera functions steals the show here with 240 fps with SLO-MO at 720 p. Improved auto focus function is available also in the video camera tool, which keeps the shots steady and clear.

Additional features
M8 motion co-processor is one of the debuting features in iPhone 6. It was designed specifically to support the fitness apps. Apple claims that the co-processor can distinguish between sports such as cycling and running. It is nothing new as many of the earlier phones including the Note series of Samsung claim to have barometer, heart rate detector etc within them. Difference is that those were apps and here we have a co-processor altogether to co-ordinate between all such app functions.

iPhone 6

Finally, did Apple manage to get all the marbles? A doubtful situation indeed as the price speculation of iPhone 6 is around RS.52,000. Having an A8 processor alone wouldn't help Apple win the game anymore given the current competition in the market.
