5 inch IPS LCD Display
The new device maintains the standards of most smartphones in this segment by limiting the display to a 5 inch IPC LCD Capacitive 5-point Multi-Touch display. The screen supports a 1280x720 pixel HD resolution with a ~300 ppi density. The only refreshing new concept offered by Lenovo is the In-Plane Switching for nearly 180° which enables a wide-angle view of pictures on screen. Users will find clearer and sharper images while viewing documents, video-calling or while simply surfing the net.
The Splash-proof nano-coating that covers the screen protects the phone from small splatter of water and dust. So now, you need not worry about using your device in case of a sudden drizzle or splash! The phone also sports a rounded design at the edges which make the device fit easily in the palm. The rear panel is available in only two colours- black and white.

The biggest attraction of the Lenovo A5000 apart from its battery and display is the set of in-built Apps, Games and Utilities in it.The manufacturers have named it them Lenovo Do It Apps. Pre-loaded in the Lenovo A5000 are Apps like ShareIt, that allows users to share files, pictures, music etc. without having to connect to the internet or wifi. Similarly CloneIt enables instant transfer of all your data from your old Lenovo device to the new one. The in-built Security feature protects the phone from viruses and speeds up its performance. SyncIt is another utility which lets users backup and restore contacts, SMS and call logs.
The lenovo A5000 also features pre-loaded games like Real Football 2015, Gamestore, Tap the Frog, Green Farm 3, Spiderman Ultimate Power for all those gaming buffs out there. Social Networking Apps like Facebook®, Skype™, Twitter, WeChat come loaded in the device itself.
Productivity Apps like Evernote, Kingsoft Office, and Camcard are also in-built for users to stay connected and get work done on the go. The device also sports Google Drive and all its office apps which can be accessed from the Google Play Store.
Processor
Thr new Lenovo A5000 runs on a 1.3 GHz Quad core processor that helps multi-tasking and enables the Android OS 4.4 KitKat deliver maximum performance. The processor and OS seems to be a major drawback considering that most smartphones are moving towards Android 5.0 OS upgrades. Let’s Hope that Lenovo will catch up on that front. However, it’s notable that the current OS seems to blend well with the specifications of the MediaTek MT6582 and ensures a more fluid gaming and video experience.
The OS optimizes memory usage and improves touchscreen capabilities in an all-time high accuracy as never seen before. So now listening to a podcast while browsing the net or gaming away on your device is a sure possibility.
Camera
The Lenovo A5000 sports an integrated camera panel with both the rear and front cameras. The rear camera has a resolution of 8 MP with LED flash for capturing sharp, clear images and videos. On the other hand the front camera also caters to your selfie requirement with a minimal resolution of 2 MP and fixed-focus feature. Video-calling and video-chatting is well accounted for by the camera panel on this device.
Connectivity
This device supports a HSPA+ connectivity with download speeds of 21 Mbps which provides faster connectivity to the internet. The Lenovo A5000 supports a dual-SIM capacity with 2G and 3G options. So keeping personal and professional life is simpler and also allows for personalised network packages. The offline GPS access through direct satellite link enables you to maneuver through the streets without an internet connection.
Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n feature which can also turn the device into a Wi-Fi hotspot is available. Also a Bluetooth 4.0 enables file sharing on the smartphone. Access to FM Radio is also enabled.
Storage
Expandable storage using a Micro SD card up to 32 GB is a viable option in the Lenovo A5000. The phone comes packed with an internal memory of 8GB and a 1GB RAM which seems to be a let down considering the potential usage of the OS and speed of the MediaTek Processor.
Competitors and Price
Micromax Yu Yureka and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G seem to the top contenders for the Lenovo A5000. The rival smartphones boast of batter camera capacities at 13 MP for the rear camera and 5 MP for the front cameras. While in the case of it’s next level OS and long-life battery, the Lenovo A5000 tags ahead.
The Lenovo is priced at RUB 12000 in Russia which is around Rs. 14,500 in India. However, considering the earlier launches of budget smartphones like the Lenovo A6000 and A7000, we suspect the Lenovo to be costing around Rs. 8999 in the Indian market.
Early Verdict
The Lenovo A5000 definitely offers some top level features considering the price-bracket in which it is set for launch. With the upcoming flash sales of Micromax Yu YUreka gaining real success and the fact that people have started labeling Xiaomi as the next smartphone revolution, it will be interesting to see whether Lenovo A5000 can stand the heat of the competition. On the spec side, it definitely scores enough to gain our confidence. So, lets wait and watch.
