Micromax Unite 3 and Intex Aqua Star II HD are the latest devices in the budget smartphone market. While the Micromax Unite 3 is priced at Rs. 6569, the Intex Aqua Star II HD costs Rs. 6590 only. As more and more mobile manufacturers are trying to attract customers from the low-cost smartphone markets, the present entrants promise a good deal for the customers.
Software and Processor
The Micromax Unite 3 runs the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS and 1.3 GHz, Quad Core MediaTek processor to sustain all its functions. The new OS blends well with the performance of the Quad Core processor to ensure higher speeds and seamless operation of the device.
On the other hand, the Intex Aqua Star II HD comes with the Android 4.4.2, Kitkat OS and Quad Core 1.2 GHz, Spreadtrum processor which puts on an equally stunning performance.
Both the phones utilise a 1GB RAM which seems sufficient and a 2000mAh Li-Po removable battery to fuel all their activities.
Display and Design
The Intex Aqua Star II HD with a 5 inches, HD IPS screen and a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (~294 ppi) rules the game when it comes to the display The display brings to your eyes real-life pictures with perfect clarity and less grainy screen.
The Micromax Unite 3 comes with a 4.7 inches (~199 ppi) IPS LCD screen with a resolution of .480 x 800 pixels. Not only does the Micromax Unite 3 have a smaller screen, it also weighs more than the Intex Aqua Star II HD making it lacking in the design quarter. While the Micromax Unite 3 weighs 151 grams, the Intex Aqua Star II HD comes at 125 grams only.
Camera
Both the devices sport an 8MP rear camera with Autofocus and LED flash. However, when it comes to the front facing cameras, the Intex leads by a point. The Intex Aqua Star II HD supports a 5 MP front shooter in comparison to the Micromax Unite 3’s 2 MP lens. Features like Touch focus, Face Detection, HDR, Face Beauty are common on both the devices.
Battery, Network and Connectivity
Both the devices are 3G enabled Dual SIM operating smartphones. Even though the 2000 mAh Li-Po battery is common to the two devices, the Micromax Unite 3 provides a longer talk time of 8 hours in comparison to only 6 hours on the Intex Aqua Star II HD. Connectivity options include Bluetooth v4.0 and Wi-Fi. The devices are also GPRS, EDGE and A-GPS enabled.
Top Contenders
The Micromax Unite 3 and Intex Aqua Star II HD face stiff competition from top players like the Lenovo A6000, Fly Quik+ and Xiaomi Redmi 1S. While Xiaomi’s device features only the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS with Quad-core 1.6GHz Cortex – A7 Snapdragon 400 processor, the Lenovo A6000 and Fly Quik+ come with Android 4.4 KitKat OS. While the Quik+ supports an 1.7 GHz Octa Core MediaTek processor, we find a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor in the Lenovo A6000. The competition is upped the next level with a 13 MP rear camera in the Fly Quik+ while Lenovo retains an 8 MP shooter. All the three major players boast of a 1280 x 720 pixel HD IPS capacitive touchscreen.
