Sony has introduced the SmartWatch 2 for Google's Android OS powered smartphones. The SmartWatch 2 is expected to support almost in all Android running smartphones. Still, the company hasn't revealed the tabulation of smartphones which support the smartwatch. Its predecessor, the SmartWatch, could cope up only with Xperia machines from Sony.
The SmartWatch 2 is coupled with a larger 1.6-inch LCD display, with a resolution of 220 x 176 pixels compared to the SmartWatch which has a smaller 1.3-inch screen with a 128 x 128 pixel resolution. It is brighter as well. The exterior part looks so glazing. It is crafted out of aluminium, high quality plastic, and stainless steel. It is also the first watch in its class to have water resistant.
The sole purpose of wearing smartwatch is to be the secondary screen for the smartphone. That is to be an absolute remote control to your smartphone. It seems like the device is run by Android OS v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Sony may get the SmartWatch 2 installed with the latest Jelly Bean version.
The SmartWatch 2 helps us to attend calls in one touch on it. Music player and volume can be controlled. While, text messages and e-mails can be read on the screen. Well, we can even have look at it in sunlight. To share data, Bluetooth 3 and NFC have been enabled. We can get in touch with social media networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter. Calendar, Weather, Runtastic, Viewfinder, and New events – aggregator are the other stuffs included. Sony said that the SmartWatch is comprised of more than 200 apps.
The smartwatch market is very limited and only a small fraction of smartphone market. It is yet to get famed. People are still to be conveyed that there is a class called smartwatch. So it will definitely take time to achieve what the company targets now. But, Sony will have a better brand name for launching smartwatches for the first time. While rivals are working on first generation smartwatches, Sony has already rolled out a third generation stuff. Let's wait and watch what the rest of brands such as Apple, Samsung, HTC, and LG have to do here in the coming days.
