Umi Fair with 5 inch HD display and 4G LTE for Rs 6,500

At the current pace in which the smartphone market is taking its course, it is necessary for OEM's to offer unique stuff to the world. UMI, a Chinese handset manufacturer has so far offered a couple of interesting devices and their next product is said to be the world's cheapest smartphone with a finger print scanner. According to the manufacturer the handset comes with “military grade hardware recognition with an intelligent self learning algorithm that translates into accuracy of 99% and better durability”. Priced at $99 (roughly Rs. 6,500), the handset is already available with several online retailers. There is no information as to when the budget smartphone will hit regions outside China.




The Umi Fair comes equipped with a 5-inch HD IPS display with a screen resolution of 720x1280 pixels, thus amounting to a pixel density of 295ppi. The dimensions of the handset measures up to 143.5x72x8.4mm and weighs 120 grams. The smartphone also packs a stainless steel inner frame which gives it a sturdy look and feel. The handset will be powered by a 64-bit 1.0GHz quad-core MediaTek (MT6735) processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and Mali-T720 GPU clocked at 450MHz. The internal storage of 8GB can be further expanded to 64 GB.



Based on Android 5.1 Lollipop the Umi Fair sports a 13 MP rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a dual-tone LED flash. The rear camera is powered by a Sony IMX164 sensor, and features a blue glass filter. The front houses in a 2 MP front-facing camera with an f/2.2 aperture as well. Right below the rear camera a military grade finger sensor can be spotted. The sensor is said to be designed with self-learning algorithms which would give users 99 percent recognition accuracy, and thus recognise a fingerprint in 0.32 seconds.



The dual-SIM handset supports GPRS/ EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Micro-USB, and Bluetooth v4.0 connectivity features. The 2,000mAh battery is said to deliver up to 170 hours of standby time, 11 hours of screen time and 7 hours of 4G web browsing. The color variants available for purchase are Black and White. An accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and proximity sensor are also roped in the device.
