Nokia Asha 501 has been announced. Check here for its preview.

Lumia and Asha are two series of phones which literally saved Nokia from the flood of smart phones from gadget giants like Apple and Samsung. Last week, Nokia announced their up coming Asha smart phone- Asha 501. the device was announced in the presence of company's global chief executive officer (CEO) Stephen Elop in New Delhi.

The Asha series of Nokia seek to dim the distinction between smart phone and feature phone. Asha is neither a smart phone, nor a feature phone. It is a beautiful hybrid of the two. The Asha series has a number of phones in its list, which are rich in feature and poor in price tag.

Jut like any other Asha device, Asha 501 also comes rich with features. The Asha 501 will be built in India itself. This budget friendly phone will be shipping to various countries at a price tag of Rs. 6000. it will be coming with multi tasking facility.

There is a tie up between Bharti Airtel and Facebook, which will allow the Asha 501 users in India and Africa to enjoy Facebook for free. They will not have to pay any data charges for accessing Facebook.

Asha 501 ill be having a scratch resistant display screen. At first the device will be 2G with Wi- Fi capability, but it will be soon followed by a 3G version. The device will be having an external memory, which will be expandable up to 32GB using a microSD card. It will be packing a 3.2 MP rear camera. Asha 501 will be available in Six different colours.

"India is very important. It is the bellwether market that is very leading indicator of some of the trend. It is very symbolic that we are not launching this from certain other countries, from Finland, London or the US. We are launching it here in India because so much of our work is focussed on Indian consumers," Stephen Elop said in the event of the announcement of Asha 501.

Display:

As we mentioned above, Asha 501 will be coming with a scratch resistant TFT LCD display of 3 inches size. The resolution will be 240 x 320 pixels. But, as the device will be coming with a new OS, which is designed so that the pixels will not be very apparent. How much lower the pixel density be, the display will be so clear, as per the claims of the company.

Camera:

There will be no front camera in Asha 501. the device will be packing a rear camera of 3.2 MP. At this price tag and this much features, there is no point in expecting yet another extravagant camera. The 3.2 MP camera will be enough for the occasional capture. The camera will be able to capture videos too, but only at QVGA.

Sensors:

Asha 501 will be having Proximity and Accelerometer for its sensors. Taking in to consideration the price tag of the phone, there is no room for complaint.

Battery:

The Asha 501 will be getting the power from a 1200 mAh battery. As per the claims of Nokia, the phone can give you a talk time up to up to 17 hours. This is a very catchy feature, which can attract a number of buyers.

The bottom line:

if you are a person, who wants a feature rich phone, which will be fitting to your budget, this is your g. Asha will give you a very good experience, even if it is not a smart phone. The Asha 501 seems to us as a very promising phone. If the multi tasking facility is real, then there is no doubt that this device will be another success.
