Nokia Lumia 1020 – Review

Read here the detailed review of Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone

Nokia Lumia 1020 is what we can call a camera smartphone the highlight if the smartphone is its camera. The device has got a 41 MP rear camera. The device runs on Windows Phone 8 OS, just like the younger siblings of the smartphone, like the Lumia 920.

Though there are so many plus points, the major drawbacks of the device is its sky high price tag. What are the other pros and cons of the Lumia 1020 smartphone? Read here the detailed review to know that.

Nokia Lumia 1020

Design and Display:

The Lumia 1020 features a poly carbonate uni body design, just like the Lumia 920 smartphone. The design is matte finished too. It carries a close resemblance with the Lumia 920 smartphone. If you are not used with it, you are sure to confuse between the 920 and the 1020 smartphones. But if you are a keen observer, you can point out that there is difference in the display. The Lumia 1020 smartphone has a 4.5 inch AMOLED display.

The Lumia 1020 smartphone has good grip that you will feel it easier to hold and to use. The matte finish and the design gives the device a premium look for sure. But the only minus I that the camera will be projected, banning from a flat rear. So, you will have to take extra care while pacing the smartphone somewhere on the surface.

The different colour shades available for the device, makes it easier for you to choose your colour more easily. There is an eye capturing Yellow colour. Or if you want to go with more standard shades, you can use either Black or White colours.

Beneath the display screen, there is the usual Back, Home and Search keys, without back lights, so it will not be that visible. On the rear side, the surface is full of camera, we could say. The 41 MP rear camera is there with its enormous circular camera lens, Xenon flash and focus light signal.

OS:

As we all know that the app store of the Windows Phone OS is so small in collection, there is nothing stunning here too. Most common apps like the Instagram are absent in this OS, but there are so many other third party apps are available, which can be used as the substitute for the time being.

Processor and Storage:

There is a 1.5 GHz dual core processor under the hood of the Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone. The device has a 2 GB RAM and a 32 GB internal storage. Sadly, there is no microSD card sot to expand the memory any further. That is a major drawback of the device. Being an exclusive camera smartphone, an external memory was a necessity as the larger sized images will take more storage space. Though there is a 7GB Sky Drive storage, the absence of an SD card slot is still a limitation.

Connectivity and Battery:

The Lumia 1020 smartphone features almost all connectivity options including Wi- Fi, Bluetooth, LTE, NFC etc. There is a 2,000 mAh battery to charge up the whole device. The battery is so insufficient taking in to consideration the use of the smartphone. Being a camera smartphone, it should have been equipped with a huge battery.

Camera:

Needless to say, Lumia 1020 is a smartphone, which highlights the camera. There is 41 MP rear camera on the rear side of the camera and a 1.2 MP front camera too. Camera options like the Panorama, Cinemagraph, Smart Cam, Bing Vision, etc, which can be seen in any Lumia phone can be seen in this smartphone too.

Image stabilization, 3x (digital) zoom, ISO settings between 100 and 4000, and shutter speeds between 1/16,000 of a second to 4 seconds etc are other highlights of the device. When you take a picture with your Lumia 1020 smartphone, two pictures are being taken. One would be a 5 MP picture, which you can share by mail or view in a handset or share with any social networking sites. Another one would be a 34 MP picture, you can access only with the help of a computer. Both the devices are interconnected. That means, if you delete one image, the other will be deleted automatically.

Nokia Lumia 1020

The images are stunningly mind blowing. With high quality and colours, it will sweep you off your feet. The camera is a well thought product. It adapts well with varying lightings. Though the pictures taken with this camera might not be that stunning like the pictures taken with a DSLR, or any professional camera, they are still stunning and enough to impress you.

Pros:

• Superb camera.

• Good display screen.

• Good design.

• Good internal storage.

Cons:

• Sky high price.

• Poor Battery life.

• No expandable storage.

Conclusion:

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is a very good camera phone. But it is not comparable to any standalone camera device. The battery, storage and the price are the major concerns of this handset. But, it is a good platform. Nokia can improve it and we really look forward to it.
