Smartphones as Passports in Dubai

Instead of giving passports for identification, the passenger can now use their smartphones in the Smart gates with UAE Smart Wallet.

Dubai started a new method of security clearance in the Dubai International Airport; Smart UAE Wallet.

Dubai Smartphone Passport

Instead of giving passports for identification, the passenger can now use their smartphones in the Smart gates with UAE Smart Wallet.

The Smart Wallet is designed to save time for passengers and will also protect their passport and documents. With just a smartphone at the smart gates and a fingerprint scanning to finish the departure procedure, passengers can depart from the airport easily and quickly.

This new facility is launched with Emirates and will include other airlines soon.

The UAE Smart Wallet will contain the personal ID, smart gate card data and passport details of the traveler followed by the data matching procedure of the passengers who need to have to show the smartphone at the gates to pass verification.

General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, Dubai said: ”Passengers will only need to scan the barcode on their smartphones at the smart gates and scan a fingerprint to complete the process in 9 to 12 seconds. Emiratis and residents represent 55 per cent of people using Dubai Airports and the UAE Wallet will reduce traffic at all gates.”

The smart wallet app is available for download and passengers can avail the wallet through the app store.
