Jolla: The Finnish Sailfish OS is here!

The new Sailfish OS smartphone by Jolla to be launched in India on September 23rd.

Life is all about new sometimes and in case of mobiles it is always about new. We are very much familiar with Apple, Android and all kinds of operating systems. How about new operating system altogether then? So you want it? You got it!

Jolla, the Finnish brand is coming to India with its all new Linux based Sailfish operating system. The company describes Sailfish as “mobile-optimized with the flexibility, ubiquity and stability of the Linux core and a cutting edge user experience built with the renowned Qt™ platform”. Jolla had announced its plan to enter Indian market back in July.

This new phone will be coming with a display of 4.5 inches, Dual core processor, 8MP camera and 16GB in-built storage. Jolla was founded by the former Nokia employees. This OS however, will concentrate on multitasking without jumping in and out of Apps. Well, that does sound familiar, yes recent iOS 8 also flaunts this feature as the key feature among the others.

So wow, Sailfish is good, huh? This phone is said to have gesture based user experience with a no-button design. What are we going to do about our favorite Android Apps then? Good news is sailfish phones are Android compatible devices which will allow us to benefit from both Sailfish Apps and Android Apps alike. Phone supports 4G connectivity as well.

Currently the market price is about 349 Euro (Rs.26,000). Price in India has not been released by the company yet.
