Micromax Canvas Music A88 – Review

Read here a specification review of Micromax Canvas Music A88.

Micromax is the number one cell phone manufacturing company in India. They have released so many good smartphones, which are rich in features and poor in the price tag. Canvas Music A88 is yet another smartphone, introduced by the company. As the name indicates, the smartphone is exclusively made for the music lovers. The smartphone comes bundled with JBL headsets along with access to free downloadable music through their MLive online service. All these are available at such a reasonable price. Lets go through the main features of the smartphone.

Design:

There are no uniqueness in the design of the Canvas Music A88 smartphone. The device is available in two different colours – White and Black. On a closer look, the resemblance of the canvas 3D is obvious. The glass screen is a real magnet to finger prints. That’s not a good thing as nobody in this fast life has time to keep the screen wiped clean every now and then. On the positive side, the rubberised back provides nice grip to the phone. As usual, the primary camera is situated at the rear side of the smartphone, along with LED flash light. As the device has only a 4.5 inch display screen, you will feel the device quite handy and compatible. Single handed operations will be easier to carry out without much delay.

As mentioned earlier, the phones comes with JBL headphones, which costs roughly around 2000 Indian rupees. There is no need to explain the quality of the headset as JBL is a pretty popular brand. This headset is sure to provide you a good listening experience. Of course the ordinary headsets are also there in the packet, but when it comes to the quality, the normal headset of the phone can not be compared with the JBL headset, for obvious reasons.

Display:

As mentioned above, the Canvas Music A88 comes with a 4.5 inch display scree. The technology used in the display screen is TFT. It has a resolution of 480×854 pixels. But still, the images and texts are quite sharp and clear, we should say. It has good viewing angles too, far better than the Canvas 3D and the Canvas 2.

Operating System:

The Canvas Music A88 runs on Jelly Bean operating system. There is no uniqueness in the OS as it is the common one used by the majority of the cell phone manufacturing companies. The interface and customisation is just like any other Micromax handset. So, there is no need for further explanation.

CPU:

The Canvas Music A88 is powered by a dual-core MediaTek MT6577 SoC processor. In the present era of Quad core processors, Dual core might sound older.

Memory:

There’s also 512MB of RAM. It has an internal storage memory of 4GB. The external memory of the smartphone can be expanded up to 32GB via the microSD card slot.

Camera:

The Canvas Music A88 comes with dual cameras. There is a 5 MP camera on the rear side of the phone and a VGA camera for the self portrait and video calling. The camera has the capability to record videos at 720p.

Connectivity:

For its connectivity options, Canvas Music A88 has three bands for 2G and just one for 3G. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.0 and USB plug-and-play support. Other than the Play Store, Micromax also bundles their M! Store and M!Zone for added content.

Battery:

The Canvas Music A88 is powered by an 1800mAh battery. On our test with the device, it managed to perform for 5 hours. We tested this with all the applications on and the Wi – Fi and the brightness were working at the maximum. This is a decent battery life for a phone of this range.

Price and Verdict:

The Micromax Canvas Music A88 has a price tag of Rs. 9,999. but you might be able to find a lesser price with different carriers or at different online shops. Though the JBL headsets add a pretty god charm, there is nothing unique in this phone. So, we don't think that this phone will be a very strong competent. There are no special feature in the phone to make your listening experience better. In short, the Canvas Music 88 is just an average smartphone, without any special features or attractions.
