Micromax Canvas 4 Vs Samsung Galaxy S4

A specification comparison of Micromax Canvas 4 and Samsung Galaxy S4.

Micromax Canvas 4 is released. So far, it is the flagship smartphone from the company. From the time of its announcement, the Canvas 4 has gained much attention. A week before, the device appeared online for pre booking. There was a refund scheme offered for all unsatisfied customers. The spec list and the price tag made it special. As the name indicates, the Canvas 4 is marked as an opponent to Samsung Galaxy S4. As the device is out now, lets check what are the similarities and contrasts it has with the Galaxy S4.

Micromax Canvas 4

Display:

In the case of the display, the Canvas 4 has 5 inch IPS HD display screen with 1280×720 pixels resolution. The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a display screen of same 5 inch size, with Full HD super Amoled display technology and 1920×1080 pixels resolution.

So, here the devices are not on the same line. One upper hand of the Canvas 4 smartphone is that, the touch screen f the smartphone works even with the gloves on. But the point is that in India, not many people will be wearing gloves a sin the western countries. But the display resolution of the Galaxy S4 is far better than the Canvas 4.

OS:

When taking the Operating system of both the phones in to consideration, both of them have Android Jelly bean 4.2 version. Both are upgradable to Android 5.0 Key lime pie Operating System. So, here also, the score is 1-1.

Processor:

One of the biggest confusion regarding the Galaxy S4 was about its processor. The smartphone came with two processor variations. Either a 1.6 GHz Octa core processor or a 1.9 GHz quad core processor will be available, depending up on the region. Micromax Canvas 4 features a 2 GHz quad core processor.

Though the Canvas 4 has a quad core processor, it is obvious that the Exynos 5 Octa core Cortex A15 processor in Galaxy S4 has an improved performance level. So, here, the Galaxy S4 wins the match. There were rumours before the release of the Canvas 4, that the device will be coming packed with an Octa core processor. Here, Micromax has disappointed the customers.

Memory:

Without even comparing, we can see that the Canvas a failure here. The device has only 1 GB of RAM. That is a terrible disappointment. A smartphone with this much features, should have at least 2 GB of RAM. The phone has 16 GB internal memory. No more variations are available like that of the Samsung Galaxy S4. Also, the canvas 4 supports microSD card to expand the memory up to 32 GB.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S4 has a full 2 GB RAM, 16/32/64 GB internal storage memory, and also microSD card expansion up to 32 GB.

Micromax Canvas 4

Camera:

In its primary camera sensors, both the phones are the same. Both of the devices have a 13 MP rear primary camera. But the Galaxy S4 has a 2 MP front camera, whereas the Canvas 4 has an amazing 5MP front camera. The differences lie in the features too. The Samsung Galaxy S4 has Smile detection, dual shot, dual video calling, best shots, sound quality, continuous shots and many more.

The Canvas 4 has vertical Panorama along with anti-shake and multiple face-detection. There is advanced burst mode in the phone which allows you to take up to 99 pictures in less than 15 seconds, which is quite amazing. Micromax upgraded the front camera in to a 5 MP decent camera, which a very good thought and improvement, which will be welcomed by the video callers and self portrait fans. So, here the winner is the Micromax Canvas 4.

Battery:

In the case of the battery back up, Samsung is likely to win the match as it has the Standard Li-Ion 2600 mAh battery. The Canvas 4 only has a 2ooo mAh battery. Though there is only a minor difference, it can vary the talk time and the battery life of the smartphones.

Price:

There is no doubt that the Micromax Canvas 4 is the smartphone with a comparatively lesser price tag. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is currently available at a price tag of 41,500/- rupees. The Micromax Canvas 4 is available at a price tag of 17,999/- rupees. This is not a minor difference. So, there will be no chance for any confusion between the two if you have a small budget.

Special features of Canvas 4:

Micromax has brought in so many special features in its Canvas 4. these features are widely loaned from Samsung, and also from other smartphones. But, there is a new feature, introduced my the company. That is the new way to unlock the Canvas 4. you just have to blow the air to the phone or just shake it. If you are so fond of your Canvas 4, you can blow kiss at he phone and will coyly unlock itself for you1 seems like the head behind this feature was in a romantics mood! Though we admit that it is a unique technique, can you imagine anyone other than the teenagers and crazy young people doing this? Seriously man, what about businessmen, professionals and all the serious people??!!

Micromax Canvas 4

Another feature, which the company has copied from the HTC brand is the flip to mute feature. Flipping the phone while ringing will make it go to the silent mode. If you flip the smartphone while on a call, it will activate the loud speaker. We hope that HTC will not file a case of patent against this!

Micromax Canvas 4

The “Smart stay” feature has been copied from the Samsung. Looking away from the phone will automatically make it pause the video or the game that has been going on. The eye tracking feature will work for restarting the video. But this is far different from the Eye Scrolling feature of Samsung.

Micromax Canvas 4

Verdict:

In short, the Micromax Canvas 4 is not at all a competent rival to the Galaxy S4. The display resolution, RAM, processor, internal memory, battery, all are against the Canvas 4. the only plus point is the camera of the Canvas 4. At such a price tag, the company should have included something amazing and unique, of course nothing like blow kisses! The rumours and the expectations were so high that the pre booking of the device had gone beyond the expectation of the analysts. Remembering that the company has offered refunding the pre booked money if the customer is not satisfied, we think that so many will be making use of that. Best wishes Micromax, you'll have to struggle hard with Canvas 4.
